MADRID, SPAIN, Feb. 24, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Bioforestal del Mediterraneo (“Bioforestal”), a prominent global renewable energy promoter, has partnered with Mars Renewable Iberia S.L. (“MARS”), a leading global provider of battery energy storage solutions and class assets, to supply a comprehensive energy storage package in a unique multi source system. This project marks a significant step for Bioforestal’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and advancing energy transition, as well as MARS’s determined efforts to further expand into the European market with cutting-edge BESS solutions.

Pioneering Renewable Energy Integration in Spain
To further reduce its carbon footprint and enhance the efficiency of electricity generation, Bioforestal has embarked on a project to integrate photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage system (BESS) with its combined heat and power plant (CHP). As part of this project, MARS is proud to contribute by providing Socrates BESS units, with a total capacity of 5.6MW/11,3MWh. Once completed, this will become the largest CHP+PV+BESS project in Spain, marking a significant milestone in the country’s energy landscape. This project has garnered support from the “PROGRAMA RENOCOGEN” initiative.
Socrates BESS Unit
The Socrates BESS is MARS’s latest-generation all-in-one containerized energy storage solution, featuring the highest modularity in the industry. Designed for utility scale applications, it maximizes economic returns for our partners while ensuring reliable and efficient operation with ultra-high system availability. To date, the Socrates BESS has established a strong sales pipeline in the European market and is poised for further growth and expansion.
